Parking Garage Security Cameras: Edge AI, No Cloud Fee
Parking Garage Security Cameras: Edge AI, No Cloud Fee
A parking garage runs cameras for a reason: levels, ramps, entrances, exits, stairwells, and the booth. Most of those cameras record and store, but they do not tell you when something is happening. Adding edge AI to your existing parking garage security cameras turns that passive footage into real-time detection—a car blocking a fire lane, a person lingering at a stairwell, a fall in the ramp, an unattended bag, or someone moving through the structure after hours. And it does this on site, with one purchase, not a per-camera monthly subscription.
Why garages add AI to cameras they already run
Nearly every garage already has a working CCTV layout. The gap is not hardware—it is useful signal. Vehicles come and go around the clock, staff rotate across shifts, and liability plus false claims hit the operator directly. Replacing working cameras to get “smart” features means new hardware, new wiring, and another cloud bill. A better path is to keep the cameras you have and add an edge AI box (or edge-capable recorder) that reads the RTSP/H.265 stream your current system already produces.
This is the same approach we use across other sites: gas station security cameras watch the forecourt and store, restaurant surveillance cameras cover counter theft and kitchen fire, and warehouse security camera systems watch for intrusion and unsafe acts. A parking structure is a 24/7 site with its own detection priorities—vehicles, vulnerable spots, and after-hours access.
What edge AI detects in a parking structure
The value is in detections tuned to a covered, multi-level environment. With 198+ algorithms available, a garage deployment typically enables a core set and adds more as needed:
- Fire-lane and accessible-space blocking: a vehicle stopped in a red zone, at a fire lane, or in an accessible bay gets flagged so staff can act before it becomes a violation or a safety gap. See intrusion detection for how line-crossing and region rules work.
- Loitering and tailgating: someone lingering at a stairwell, elevator, or booth, or two people passing a controlled gate together—useful for both safety and loss prevention.
- After-hours intrusion: a person on a level, at an entrance, or in the ramp when the structure is closed—see how a Ring camera alternative keeps video on site rather than in a vendor cloud.
- Slip and fall: a driver or pedestrian on the floor in the ramp or at the booth—an event with direct liability exposure. Fall detection raises an alert so someone can respond, not discover it later on a recording.
- Smoke or fire: early smoke or flame at a charger bank, booth, or vehicle—seconds matter in an enclosed structure. Our smoke and fire detection algorithm is built for exactly this, and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) sets the codes structures are expected to follow.
- Left object and abandoned vehicle: an unattended bag at a booth or a vehicle parked far past its session gets flagged, useful for both safety and turnover.
- People counting: understand busy entry windows without a separate sensor network, so you can position attendants during peak hours.
- License plate recognition (LPR): at entries and exits, LPR supports payment reconciliation, blocked-list and stolen-vehicle matching, and repeat-offender tracking—useful for both revenue control and safety. See our explainer on what license plate recognition does for how on-site LPR works without sending plate data to a cloud.
None of this requires a person staring at screens. The edge device raises an event; your team decides what to do with it.
Your video stays on site—privacy for drivers and staff
Garage video shows real people arriving, paying, and walking to their cars. Sending that stream to a third-party cloud is a privacy and compliance decision, not just a cost. Running detection on site means the raw video stays on your network; only event metadata and short clips leave the premises, and only when you choose to export them. For a practical framing of responsibilities, the NIST Privacy Framework is a useful reference for mapping what you collect to why you collect it—and it keeps the deployment aligned with GDPR expectations where they apply.
This local-first model is also why many operators move away from cloud-only camera brands—see our take on a security camera without a monthly fee and a Blue Iris alternative that avoids an always-on Windows PC.
Runs on your existing RTSP/H.265 cameras
If your current cameras stream RTSP or H.265/H.264, they are compatible. We do not require a specific camera brand; the edge AI reads the video feed your recorder already ingests. The same RTSP-based approach used on construction sites works here too, so a mixed fleet of IP cameras across levels, ramps, and booths is not a blocker.
A typical structure runs on 2–128 channels, with 1–256 TOPS of on-site compute depending on how many algorithms run and at what resolution. Starter configurations cover the entrance and first level; larger structures with multiple decks, chargers, and booths scale up without replacing cameras.
Pricing and deployment
Pricing is one purchase, not a subscription. The Standard line is 2 / 4 / 6 channels at USD 399 / 999 / 1,599, and configurations beyond 6 channels are quoted per project. Cable is included at 10-metre per channel, with longer runs at USD 25 per additional 10 metres. There is no per-camera monthly fee and no cloud storage charge.
Deployment is configuration-led: for in-library algorithms, a first working version is typically ready in about 7 days after we see your camera streams. If you need a detection rule we do not yet have, we review your camera streams first and confirm scope before committing to a date—custom algorithms are delivered when they perform to the agreed scope, not on a fixed calendar guess.
After delivery, the site-wide policy is no refunds; Standard-tier hardware is exchangeable within 30 days, and custom configurations are commissioned until they perform to the agreed scope.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run AI on the cameras I already have in the parking garage?
In most cases, yes. If your cameras output RTSP or H.265/H.264, an edge AI device reads that stream without replacing the cameras. We confirm compatibility after a quick look at your current recorder and channel list, then propose a channel count that covers the levels, ramps, entrances, and booths.
Does garage video leave my premises or go to the cloud?
Detection runs on site. Raw video stays on your network; only event metadata and clips you choose to export leave the building. This keeps driver and staff footage local and avoids recurring cloud storage fees, while staying aligned with privacy expectations such as GDPR where they apply.
What can edge AI actually detect in a parking garage?
Core detections include fire-lane and accessible-space blocking, loitering at stairwells and booths, after-hours intrusion across levels and ramps, slip and fall in the ramp or booth, smoke and flame at charger banks and vehicles, left-object and abandoned-vehicle alerts, and people counting for peak staffing. The algorithm set is expandable across 198+ options as your needs grow.
How much does it cost and how long does deployment take?
One purchase: Standard 2 / 4 / 6 channels at USD 399 / 999 / 1,599; beyond 6 channels is quoted per project. Cable is 10-metre per channel, USD 25 per extra 10 metres. A configuration-led pilot with in-library algorithms is usually ready for a live pilot in about 7 days once we see your streams.
